The Building

As this was suppose to be a gallery the building needed to be good looking. For me this was acheived using straight edges for the facade but having the welcome desk and displays being curved.

Another aspect of the building was deciding how it was going to be lit. I originally was toying with the idea of using a series of straight lights, like flourescent tubes, combined with a series of curved deflectors. However I was not happy with how this turned out and decided to rethink my strategy.

It was at this point I had a choice of using either more interior lights, switching to a skylight, or adding a sun system. My first reaction was to use a sunlight system. However in testing I wasn't pleased with the look it produced as it left a lot of hot spots, which is a nice effect, but not one I had desired.

This left the skylight and as luck would have it I was able to produce the light and airy look I had desired. It was the lighting decision which led me to create a roof which consisted of square openings to let the light in.
